Postal services from India to Nepal resume

Sources report that postal services from India to Nepal via Raxaul have resumed after a six-month hiatus caused by the activities of the United Democrat Madhes Front (UDMF) . According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI) on Tuesday (16 February), the UDMF had imposed a blockade at entry points on the India/Nepal border as part of a broad protest campaign but decided to scale back its protests on 8 February.

The Raxaul postal inspector Mithlesh Kumar reportedly told the TOI that around 1,200 bags of post intended for delivery in Nepal had accumulated at the Raxaul post office.

The TOI report said that the Nepalese postal department collected 77 postal bags from Raxaul post office on Monday, and plans to continuing working its way through the stockpile on a “day-to-day basis”.
