Pakistani President stresses provision of modern postal services

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf here on Monday emphasized the need for provision of most modern postal services by using information technology (IT) for the convenience of people.

He said this during his visit to the Post Mall in Islamabad, the first of its kind in the country providing all modern day postal services including money transfer, business center, banking, e-commerce, insurance and parcels.

Musharraf praised state-of-the-art mailing products of the Pakistan Post to its customers that include on-line money-transfer facility from abroad within 10 minutes.

He directed that such modernized one-stop-services facility be extended across the country.

The “Pakistan Mall” is the pilot project of the Pakistan Post that offers innovative products through the use of modern techniques of information technology in the communication.

Communication Minister Javed Ashraf Qazi and Director General of the Post Agha Masood Hassan briefed the president about the extension plans of these modern facilities.

Three more “Pakistan Mall” centers will be set up in Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi within the next six months.

The Pakistan Post has made special arrangements with the Western Union – an international Postal Insurance company – for the fastest money transfer facility.

A customer can now receive money sent from abroad in just 10 minutes through on-line disbursement facility.

The mall which was inaugurated in September has handled about 5.1 million US dollars in money-transfer from abroad in just about a month’s time.
