bpost reports “outstanding” domestic parcels performance

bpost has reported its first quarter (Q1) 2016 results, which included an “outstanding” domestic parcels performance. Volumes in the domestic parcels sector were up 14.6%, driven by more e-commerce and C2C activity. There was a slow-down in the growth of international parcels (up only about €500,000) which bpost said was “mainly due to flows from US which are hampered by the strong USD”.

Domestic mail volume was down by 4% – but this was an improvement on the 5% drop for the same period in 2015.

Koen Van Gerven, bpost’s CEO, commented: “Domestic mail volumes held up well, driven by the positive evolution of advertising mail as a result of our new selling approach which is bearing fruits.

“I am also particularly pleased with the excellent performance within domestic parcels as well as the continued growth of our new solutions. Therefore, I am confident that we will be able to face the future challenges of 2016 and  re-iterate the outlook of stable EBITDA and dividend for the full year.”
