Grab launches food delivery in Jakarta

On-demand transportation and delivery company Grab has launched a food delivery service in Jakarta. The GrabFood service is currently in its “Beta test trial period”, so deliveries are only possible between 11:00 and 14:00 and the  coverage is restricted to the Senayan area, SCBD – Semanggi and Kuningan.

The company is working with mid to upscale restaurants like the Mediterranean specialist Turkuaz and the Italian restaurant Pepenero.

The cost of delivery is 20,000 Indonesian rupiah, payable in cash. The company said on its website that it will “soon be adding features to accept non-cash payments”.

Local sources report that GrabFood may have a tough battle on its hands, competing with Go-Jek’s GoFood, which is both cheaper and more established.
