Correos De Chile restructures mail services

The Chilean mail & express service Correos de Chile is actively negotiating with pharmacies and service station chains the setting up of 200 service points nationwide. Details would be released early 2003 and are part of a modernization spree inclusive the closing of 300 branches from the current 1,100 held by Correos. Correos competes with 300 private courier services in Chile and some of its branches are no longer sustainable. Consequently it would make 1,600 people redundant to slash costs, 1,200 of which already signed to the voluntary retirement program being offered by the company.
