Europe, Latin America tops list of business mail targets from survey at DMA show

Deutsche Post Global Mail, the reliable international mail services provider, today announced results of a random survey of businesses that send mail internationally conducted at the annual DMA Conference. Survey respondents identified Europe and Latin America as the regions they are most interested in reaching with business mail. The 85th annual event, hosted by the Direct Marketing Association, was held in San Francisco from October 19-22.

According to the Deutsche Post Global Mail survey, all respondents currently send mail to Europe, 40 percent mail to South America, 28 percent send business mail to Asia and nine percent mail to Africa. When asked which new countries they intend to target in 2003, Italy was the most popular response, followed by Germany and France. After those three European nations, respondents indicated that Argentina and Brazil were next on their lists.

“The results of this survey show that in a business world that is putting more and more emphasis on reaching international markets using Internet initiatives, many companies still see the value of using business mail,” said Rainer Hengst, vice president of public affairs at Deutsche Post Global Mail USA. “Clearly international mail is an important tool for American companies looking to communicate to audiences abroad.”

The survey results indicate that the anticipated growth of international mail would continue a trend that began to emerge in the late 1990s. When asked how long their companies had been mailing internationally, 71 percent of respondents said five years or less, including 15 percent who had started within the past 12 months.

Deutsche Post Global Mail provides U.S. companies with a variety of value added international mail services, including local in-country marketing expertise, address hygiene, database management, chargeback systems and production services. The firm also assists a growing number of e-commerce companies targeting international consumers online with global logistics, warehousing, customs clearance and other critical, supply chain management expertise and support.
