DPD Austria launches “City Hub” parcel shop in Vienna

DPD Austria has launched its new-concept “City Hub” parcel shop in Aspern, Vienna. The City Hub, located in Aspern’s “Seetstadt”, provides temporary storage for parcels which are then delivered to residents in the local district using electric-powered delivery bicycles and vehicles.  The City Hub also serves as a pick-up point for parcels that could not be delivered, and customers can drop off parcels too.

According to DPD, the City Hub marks the first time that a parcel service provider in Austria has opened a parcel shop which is managed by the parcel service provider itself.

In a statement issued this month, DPD Austria said that it has been working with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) and 14 other companies on a project called EMILIA which aims to make freight logistics in urban spaces more efficient and cleaner.
