Japan Postal Service Agency to seek tie-ups with private firms
Japan’s Postal Services Agency will set up an office to promote business tie-ups with private firms in a bid to boost revenue and improve customer services, agency officials said Friday.
The move is in line with ongoing reform in Japan’s postal services and the agency’s planned shift in April to a new public corporation.
The agency is currently working with major convenience store chain Lawson Inc., installing mailboxes at its outlets nationwide.
The agency is also expanding its tie-up with private banks to extend the use of postal savings automatic teller machines. But there has been little progress toward a comprehensive tie-up covering all three businesses of postal mail, savings and insurance services.
The agency’s new office will plan tie-ups related to more than two areas of its services and promote effective use of its post office network nationwide.
The agency is also considering developing overseas businesses, including corporate acquisitions in Southeast Asia, the officials said.
