Cisco Systems and Deutsche Post agree on strategic partnership
Cisco Systems, global provider of internet network solutions, and Deutsche Post World Net, one of the leading global logistics service providers, have agreed on a strategic partnership in the area of information technology. During the coming two years the focus will be on the exchange of expertise when implementing selected chosen projects. These will include web based accounting applications in finance and internet supported solutions for company internal communication.
For Deutsche Post World Net the co-operation with Cisco is part of implementing the value creation programme STAR with which the logistics group is planning to increase its consolidated profits by €1.4bn by the year 2005. The international consolidation of information technology plays an important role in this. For example the existing eighteen large data centres are to be combined world-wide into three or four globally operating locations and current differing systems standardised throughout the group.
Cisco is a prime example, because during the mid 1990s the globally operating company had already begun to support nearly all internal and external business processes with internet technology by means of consistent ‘web enablement’. A global standardised infrastructure was implemented as a basis for this.
