Exel announces in regional data communications in Singapore

Today in Singapore, Exel the global leader in supply chain management announced that it intends to invest at least SGD6m in the transformation and optimisation of its regional data network.

After an extensive review of information management requirements and evaluating proposals from six global and regional communications providers, Exel is pleased to confirm that SingTel has been selected as its strategic regional data communications provider to deploy the Asia Pacific Wide Area Network (WAN) using IPVPN technology on its private backbone. This will provide Exel with the foundation to meet current communication demands in line with its global strategy, and the ability to take advantage of future initiatives.

The IPVPN network will be used primarily for business critical applications where Exel can prioritise data traffic by applying a class of service to ensure maximum productivity.

The APAC WAN is designed to improve speed, increase bandwidth, resilience and improve cost efficiency resulting in greater performance across Exel’s data network. The system will begin to rollout with immediate effect to allow maximum progressive gains with the aim of being fully operational within a year, putting Exel among the first multinational organisation in the region to adopt this technology and as a leader in its industry.

In a competitive industry, cost management will directly improve profitability. IT has been challenged year on year to reduce operating costs and at the same time increase capacity and performance. By selecting the correct initiatives at the right time Exel has been consistently successful in adding value through IT.

“One of Exel’s aims in communications has always been rationalisation and convergence of our activities across the region and globally. This has obvious performance benefits for the company which in turn translates to greater customer satisfaction,” said Ng Kim Hung, IT Director, Asia Pacific.

“Exel has never been complacent about its position as a leading global logistics and supply chain management company. Data management is critical in our business, and its importance is ever increasing. In selecting a provider for the data network, we are satisfied that SingTel can provide us with the reach and stability we need presently, as well as the capability to expand as our business grows,” said CK Lee, Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific, Exel.
