Exel expands profile in South Africa

Exel, acquired 100% of Eagle Freight and 40% of Ukhozi Logistics in South Africa on 1 January, 2003. The acquisition of Eagle Freight and the investment in Ukhozi Logistics strengthens Exel’s existing airfreight network and significantly augments the seafreight business. Exel is now positioned within the top 10 logistics providers in South Africa.

Eagle Freight has been successfully operating for over 30 years. Today, the company has more than 260 employees at four locations and looks back on many years of experience and contact with decision makers in the South African economy. Its range of services includes total freight management and comprehensive knowledge of project management. Eagle Freight’s capabilities are supported by a very modern IT system and all offices are ISO 9002 certified.

As one of South Africa’s new generation of companies, Eagle Freight offers training programmes in all departments for its employees in order to guarantee its customers the best possible service.

“The acquisition of Eagle Freight, one of South Africa’s most successful logistics providers, boosts our seafreight business tremendously in Germany,” said Volker Bloeck, Exel’s Hamburg-based European Seafreight Director. “We have now been able to establish our own consolidation service between Germany and South Africa and we are extremely pleased about this.”
