“AmazonFresh Pickup” could be coming soon

Local sources report that Amazon could be planning to launch its latest physical retail initiative in its home town Seattle soon. The new concept – reportedly called AmazonFresh Pickup – is essentially a drive-through centre where online shoppers can pick up their AmazonFresh grocery orders.

According to technology news provider Geekwire (which is itself based in Seattle), Amazon has filed permit documents with the City of Seattle for developments in the Ballard and SoDo neighbourhoods.

In a story filed yesterday (14 March), Geekwire also published pictures which appeared to show people at the Amazon site in Ballard operating motion-activated signs in drive-through car bays.

As previously reported, Amazon opened its first automated convenience – called AmazonGo – in Seattle last year. The store is operating, but is open only to the company’s employees for now.
