Uber suspends autonomous vehicle road testing operations
Uber has temporarily suspended its autonomous vehicle road testing operations, after one of its cars was involved in a crash in Arizona. A spokesperson for the Tempe Police Department told Reuters: “The vehicles collided, causing the autonomous vehicle to roll onto its side.
“There were no serious injuries.”
The spokesperson added that the crash happened when the driver of the second car “failed to the yield” to the Uber vehicle.
Two “safety” drivers were in the front seats of the Uber car and there were no back seat passengers.
The reports suggest that the crash may have resulted from human error, and the autonomous vehicle tests have been suspended as a precautionary measure.
Uber has been running autonomous vehicle tests in three US states: Arizona, Pennsylvania and California.
