Zebra Technologies launches SmartPack Trailer
Zebra Technologies has launched a new solution, called SmartPack Trailer, which it says will the transportation and logistics (T&L) industry “real-time operational visibility”. According to Zebra, SmartPack Trailer will be the first in a “portfolio of solutions” that will help carriers of freight and parcels build a “smarter, more connected distribution network”.
“SmartPack Trailer captures operational data such as load density, trailer fullness, images of loads in progress and number of packages scanned and loaded per hour, giving organizations unprecedented insights to achieve peak levels of performance and profitability,” said Zebra.
Zebra continued: “Due to a lack of visibility in the loading process, trailers are often loaded improperly, wasting available space. SmartPack Trailer solves this issue by drawing actionable insight from data provided by 3D sensors and camera technology on the loading dock, allowing organizations to eliminate wasted space and time. This helps decrease the number of trailers on the road, thereby reducing fuel and maintenance costs.”
Zebra also argued that while trailers are currently “loaded to just 70% capacity, meaning 30% of every trailer is just empty air”, SmartPack “uses 3D sensing and camera tech to increase this capacity to 85% or more”.
