The expansion comes despite problems with the service over the last 12 months. Price and punctuality problems have seen a string of complaints in countries across Europe including Ireland and Norwy. GLS acknowledged that there had been problems earlier this year but they were being sorted out.
‘This European package delivery agreement is part of a continuing plan by the postal service to provide reliable and affordable international mail services to meet the rapidly expanding global needs of its customers,‘ said James Wade, VP international business at the USPS.
The post signed a deal with Royal Mail in 2001, whereby the USPS sends al GEM and global air post packages in 23 European countries to Frankfurt, where Royal Mail takes delivery. GLS is then responsible for deliverying the packages throughout Europe.
