UPS Ready For Your "House Calls"
UPS (NYSE:UPS) has become the first package delivery company to broadly offer occasional shippers working in small offices or at home same-day pickup service for ground parcels, not just air express.
The new UPS service, named On-Call PickupSM, allows a busy business owner, for example, to use the Internet or telephone to schedule a pickup of any type package either on the same day or on a future date, should they be unable to leave the office.
The service is priced economically and requires only that a customer use “MyUPS.com” on the Web to prepare the package. Once that is done, a pickup on the same day can be scheduled on the Web for just US$4 a package, or only US$2 for pickup the next day. If the phone is used instead, by calling 1-800-PICK-UPS®, the fee for same day pickup is US$5 and the fee for a pickup the next day is US$4.
“We all have those occasions when we’re unable to leave the home or office to ship a package,” noted Jerry Del Gaudio, UPS vice president of product development. “On days like that, asking your UPS driver to come to you is an ideal alternative. On-Call Pickup now offers you that option whether you are shipping air or our economical ground service.”
On-Call Pickup offers another way for occasional shippers to easily access UPS shipping services and marks another step in a broad expansion of convenient service options. Packages prepared on the Web also can be handed directly to drivers or dropped at UPS Customer Counters, The UPS StoreTM locations or authorized retail outlets.
Several years ago, UPS extended to all its customers the ability to prepare packages for shipment using their computer and printer through “MyUPS.com.” Last summer, UPS also extended its money-back delivery guarantees to shipments destined for residential addresses, thus providing the same reliability that millions of business customers count on every day. Now, when convenience is paramount, On-Call Pickup applies to both air and ground packages.
UPS is the world’s largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain services, offering an extensive range of options for synchronizing the movement of goods, information and funds. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., UPS serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. UPS’s stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange (UPS), and the company can be found on the Web at UPS.com.
