TNT formally launches partnership with China Post

Dutch forwarding service TNT Express has formally launched a partnership with China Post following the end of its 15-year old ties with Sinotrans Ltd, the Shanghai Daily reported.

An agreement was signed on April 25 to form a strategic partnership and to set up a team to explore possible areas of cooperation in postal services, express delivery and logistics, the report said.

The report quoted TNT Logistics (China) managing director Charles Peng as citing China Post’s huge network and exemption from a ban on night flights as being particularly attractive.

TNT Express and TNT Logistics are arms of TNT Holdings while China Post is part of China’s postal network.

TNT’s joint venture with Sinotrans ended with the expiry of their contract in May. The paper quoted an industry insider as saying that the Chinese shipper was unhappy with TNT’s increasingly cooperative links with China Post, which began in 2000.
