Royal Mail faces strike action
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has announced that its members working for Royal Mail have voted in favour of taking industrial action in their dispute over pensions, pay and jobs. The CWU tweeted this afternoon that 89.1% voted “Yes” on a 73.7% turnout.
The UK-based parcel price comparison site ParcelHero said that any industrial action could lead to delays and cancellations across the network – especially as the delivery industry is facing its busy “peak season”.
Bobby Shome, Business Development Director EMEA at Centiro, said the situation highlighted how important it is for retailers to be flexible and keep their delivery options open.
“The news of a Royal Mail strike should set alarm bells ringing for retailers as they head into their busiest time of the year,” said Shome. “It is a stark reminder to retailers not to put all their eggs into one basket as relying too heavily on one carrier can leave a them high and dry if it is suddenly unable to fulfil an order.”
