Thailand Post Office must stand alone

The post office has officially separated from the Communications Authority of Thailand, a report in Krungthep Turakij said.

As part of the government’s privatisation plan, the Communications Authority of Thailand has officially split into two separate companies – CAT Telecommunications and Thailand Post. A new board of directors has been charged with forming an organisational restructuring plan for Thailand Post. The post office plans to make an agreement with a bank to expand its services and will offer more information technology services, such as electronic messaging. It will also increase postage stamp prices.

The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology has ordered Thailand Post to reduce its losses so that it can be self-sufficient within four years. Last year the post office lost more than one billion baht.
