Miscellaneous Mail News from SAS Air Mail
1 – Air Baltic will open a direct service between Riga and Brussels.
Brussels will be Air Baltic’s 14th international destination.
The partly SAS owned airline airBaltic is to fly between Riga and Brussels
from the 1st September. Initially, the route will be operated three days a
week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday. However, if the response is favorable,
daily flights may be feasible as early as in 2004. In combination with SAS
flights via Copenhagen, there will be an attractive selection of flights
between Latvia and Belgium.
2 – Air Botnia to fly daily between Helsingki and Genève from the 6th
October 2003 by Avro RJ85 jet
The wholly SAS owned airline Air Botnia will inaugurate a new service
between Helsinki, Finland, and Geneva, Switzerland, on 6 October 2003. The
new route is Air Botnia’s third direct flight to a European destination, as
it already flies from Helsinki to Brussels and Düsseldorf.
3 – SAS Cargo back with freighter from New York JFK to Copenhagen
In cooperation with Korean Air Cargo, SAS Cargo will commence a weekly
all-freighter operation from September 05, 2003. An increased demand from
customers to be able to send larger and more complicated consignments,
combined with the prospect of changes in the SAS route net are the main
reasons for the new, three-year agreement with Korean Air Cargo. SAS Cargo
wishes to supplement its current cargo capacity onboard the daily SAS
passenger flight from New York to Copenhagen with a weekly Boeing 747-400
freighter. The first departure from JFK is Friday, September 5th, at 22.30
hours (local time), and it will arrive at Copenhagen Saturday the 6th at
12.00 (local time). During the weekend SAS Cargo will then distribute the
cargo to its Scandinavian destinations so customers will be able to receive
it Monday morning.
4 – USPS closes the exchange office at IAD Washington ISC
The USPS has informed that the station IAD Washington ISC will be closed as
Office of Exchange. This will be effective starting on 6th September 2003.
SAS Air Mail regrets we cannot accept mail anymore on board flight SK925 to
IAD Washington ISC. Please use our flights to NYC.
