DHL announce organizational changes in US

DHL today announced organizational changes that represent a key step toward building a more efficient and competitive infrastructure for its U.S. operations following the close of the company’s acquisition of Airborne. Effective immediately, pick up and delivery services previously handled by 169 of DHL’s nationwide service centers will be transitioned to couriers currently servicing the Airborne delivery network.

Impacted DHL employees will continue to be paid and receive benefits through October 31, 2003, and will receive severance packages based on years of service.

“While the decision to reorganize these operations was a difficult one, it is an important step as we seek to create a more effective, streamlined organization that eliminates overlap,” said John Fellows, Chief Executive Officer of DHL Holdings (USA), Inc. “By transferring our pick up and delivery operations, we are establishing a more efficient and robust infrastructure, which will translate into a stronger platform for future growth. As we move forward with the integration process, it is essential that we take the best practices from each company — both from an economic and operational perspective — to ensure that we position ourselves as a strong and effective competitor.”

Fellows continued, “Though the combination of two large organizations like ours is always a complex process, we feel it is in the long-term best interests of our employees and other stakeholders for us to move swiftly and decisively as we integrate the two companies. Our goal is to grow DHL’s business in the U.S., which will ultimately create opportunities for our employees. Customers can also be confident that they will continue to receive the same high levels of service that they have come to expect from us throughout the integration process.”
