UPS is expanding its services in Malaysia and Thailand

UPS is seeking to make use of potential business opportunities in the Southeast Asian markets.

The company has started daily flights between its Philippine base and Kuala Lumpur using a chartered Boeing 737 aircraft, and is planning similar services linking Bangkok next month with a Boeing 757.

UPS has been expanding its service in Asia, including the opening of a distribution hub at the former Clark US Air Force base in the Philippines last year.

The company’s shipments from Asia rose 15 per cent in the second quarter, compared with its average 6.2 per cent gain for worldwide deliveries in the three months ended June 30.

According to the UPS executive, the company plans to increase cargo capacity on the Kuala Lumpur route in the first half of next year by replacing the 737 with a 757.
