UK postal union to decide next move after strike rejection

Leaders of the postal workers union will meet to decide their next move in the wake of the surprise rejection of industrial action over pay by thousands of Royal Mail employees.

Members of the Communication Workers Union narrowly voted against strikes in a national row over wages.

But workers in London, involved in a separate dispute over pay, backed walkouts by 11,417 to 4,316.

The union’s executive will decide tomorrow whether to call industrial action in London following the strong support from workers in the capital.

Any strike in London would have a huge impact on mail deliveries across the UK.

Agreement has still to be reached on the national pay dispute despite last week’s vote against industrial action.
