Irish Nightline agrees deal with FedEx
Express delivery and logistics group Nightline has announced an operational agreement with FedEx Express that will allow it take on 50 extra staff over the next two years.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nightline will make collections and deliveries for FedEx customers outside the greater Dublin area.
The link-up with Nightline is part of a major drive by FedEx into the Irish market in its bid to expand its Irish presence and challenge incumbent players such as An Post.
The global conglomerate said it was introducing a new Airbus A300 to offer it additional capacity to support its expansion. John Tuohy, managing director of Nightline, said the link-up with FedEx “will create up to 50 new jobs at Nightline over the next few years, bringing our total number of employees up to 250”.
Following the deal, the FedEx brand will now be seen on Nightline’s fleet of 200 vehicles, he said.
Since 2000 the company has invested 5m in improving its facilities, security and IT, Mr Tuohy said.
This allowed it to handle 12,000 packages a day via its nine facilities nationwide, he claimed.
Nightline, which was set up in Mr Tuohy’s spare bedroom in Castleknock, Co Dublin in 1992, turned over 14.8m in 2002 based on an active customer base of about 1,000 businesses.
