BMW selects DHL for Korea auto hub

DHL Danzas Air & Ocean has been awarded a five-year contract to manage BMW’s vehicle distribution center in South Korea.

DHL Danzas Air & Ocean Korea will operate integrated warehousing and distribution for BMW Korea, including storage and customs clearance, the company said.

Under the agreement, DHL, the global air and ocean freight provider and the logistics arm of DHL, has designed and constructed a purpose-built VDC in Inchon (schedules) with a storage area of more than 35,000 square-meters, and a 2,000-square-meter pre-delivery inspection center and two tent houses for vehicle storage covering an area of 4,000 square-meters. Operations began in April.

The Inchon facility has a capacity to store 1,600 vehicles is expected to have an annual throughput of about 10,000 vehicles in South Korea.
