Nigeria Post moves to enhance speedy mail delivery

Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) last week joined the rest of the 188 members of the International Postal Union (IPU), to mark the World Post Day with a resolve to further enhance speedy mail delivery.

It said following its discovery that many of the post offices are in Nigeria located in the outskirts of major towns and cities thereby making patronage of such post offices very difficult, management has directed area postal managers to evolve means of bringing postal services closer to the people.

These means include the construction of kiosks or mini-post offices in the centre of major towns and cities to provide services.

Similarly, it said due to its success in delivering mail to any part of the country within 72 hours, the federal government has given NIPOST a fresh mandate to deliver letters going to any part of the country within 48 hours. “NIPOST has accepted this challenge and we are presently working out strategies to meet the challenge,” said the spokesperson of the body, Hussaina Charity Ato in a statement.

“Following the success recorded in our mail distribution and delivery system through the introduction of the National Mail Route Network in 2000, the UPU adopted the systems as a model for West African countries.

“Within the support of ECOWAS, a sub Regional Mail Transmission Network for member countries of ECOWAS was recently launched in Abuja through the Quality of Service Fund (QSF) of the UPU.
