Walmart granted patent for blockchain-based “smart package” delivery system

Retailer Walmart has been granted a patent for a “smart package” system which would use blockchain-based technology to track parcels and monitor their contents’ condition.

The patent was submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in August 2017 and published by the USPTO last Thursday (1 March).

Walmart has already been working on other Blockchain initiatives to strengthen its supply chain operations. As previously reported by Post&Parcel, in November the retailer partnered with IBM on projects for its food deliveries.
