Amazon buys smart doorbell company Ring

Amazon has reportedly bought the “smart doorbell” company Ring for more than $1bn.

The Ring Video Doorbell enables user to answer the door remotely, using their  smartphone or tablet. The company also makes security cameras and other accessories.

Reports on Bloomberg and other media outlets have speculated that the acquisition is part of Amazon’s drive to make home deliveries easier and more convenient.

As previously reported, Amazon has already been trialing other smart lock and remote access technologies which allow Prime customers to receive their parcel deliveries when they are not at home.
