Cash vows to help to slow junkmail flow
Territorians wanting to cut the amount of junk mail stuck in their letter boxes have been given a helping hand.
Planet Ark will launch its Do Not Mail service, a multi-pronged strategy aimed at the companies distributing the mail taking unwilling Territorians from their lists.
The free service will allow people wanting to stop junkmail to:
Have their address removed from the mailing lists of 500 companies who are members of the Australian Direct Marketing Association.
Affix a sticker reading “No Unaddressed Advertising Material” to letterboxes (it is Australia Post company policy not to post unaddressed advertising to letterboxes with such stickers).
The service is also promoting the recycling of mail through local city councils.
Former tennis champion and Planet Ark co-founder Pat Cash said: “It’s good to see the Australian direct marketing industry taking a lead on this issue in the interests of conservation.”
Planet Ark estimates Australian letterboxes are filled with seven billion flyers, catalogues and leaflets every year.
