Analysing the potential impact of autonomous freight vehicles on London

A new report which analyses the impact of freight autonomous vehicles (AVs) on central London boroughs is now publicly available.

Commissioned by Cross River Partnership (CRP) and conducted by Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), the study aims to “equip boroughs to take full advantage of the benefits of freight AVs whilst mitigating any potential challenges”.

The study recommended that the government should prioritise the development of a regulatory framework, invest in the technology and also incentivise logistics operators to adopt freight AVs. CRP added that: “Ensuring suitable infrastructure is in place to support AV functionality and safety features prior to full deployment is important.”

CRP commissioned the study as part of its role coordinating the Central London Sub Regional Transport Partnership, which is a collaboration of 8 central London boroughs working to develop and innovate sub-regional transport priorities on behalf of Transport for London (TfL).
