Posten Sweden on track to leaner organization
Swedgiro AB, the wholly owned subsidiary of Posten, Sweden’s national postal service organization, operates in Poland and the Baltic rim countries. The business operations in Poland will be taken over by the company’s management team. The business operations in the Baltic rim countries will be taken over by Finland’s national postal service organization. Swedgiro provides combinations of conventional and electronic mail services. Posten will realize a capital gain on the transaction.
Posten’s board of directors has articulated its aim to more closely focus on Sweden and the core business. As a consequence of this decision Posten is divesting Swedgiro. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
Agne Pettersson, Senior Vice President, commented: “We are in the process of reviewing various business operations to ascertain whether they dovetail into Posten’s mandate and strategy going forward. The Swedgiro transaction is satisfactory for all parties.”
In 2003 Posten has also exited Direct Link in Belgium and signed a major services agreement under which IBM will manage and enhance Posten’s IT and telephony infrastructure.
Sweden Post earlier announced its decision to discontinue the Certificate Authority (CA) operation as part of its strategy to focus on core business operations. The intention ahead is for TeliaSonera, the Nordic and Baltic telecommunications leader, to deliver the certificates containing the electronic identity.
