Amazon to buy PillPack

While Amazon’s announcement about empowering eager entrepreneurs to set up their delivery businesses understandably grabbed the headlines yesterday (29 June), the retail giant also revealed that it is set to buy the online pharmacy PillPack.

PillPack offers pre-sorted doses of medications for home delivery and coordinates refills and renewas.

In a statement published on the Amazon website, TJ Parker, co-founder and CEO of PillPack, commented: “PillPack makes it simple for any customer to take the right medication at the right time, and feel healthier.

“Together with Amazon, we are eager to continue working with partners across the healthcare industry to help people throughout the U.S. who can benefit from a better pharmacy experience.”

Although not as attention-grabbing as the rallying cry for delivery-entrepreneurs, the PillPack purchase is still a significant move for Amazon, which has been eyeing the pharmacy market for some time.
