DHL’s Bristol-based warehouse to provide extra flexibility for customers

DHL Supply Chain has opened a new multi-user facility in Avonmouth, offering a choice of storage conditions to give customer access to flexible and cost-effective state-of-the-art warehousing.

The 11-acre DHL site will offer its users economies of scale, with shared facilities and vehicles cutting down wasted space and unnecessary overheads. The regional distribution centre, based outside Bristol, it will service customers’ South West operations, allowing them to deliver into regional towns and cities with fewer vehicles and journeys.

A new report by DHL, ‘The logistics transport evolution: the road ahead’, reveals urbanisation is a significant trend influencing transport networks. Across Europe, over half of respondents with responsibility for transport say that urbanisation is going to have a significant impact on decision making over the next two years.

With a choice of 120,000 sq ft of ambient chambers and 35,000 sq ft of temperature-controlled sheds, including frozen, chilled and fixed temperature chambers, the facility is designed to be as versatile as possible, catering for a diverse range of needs. Flexible dock doors and ground level access points allow for a complete range of vehicles to be controlled from the site, while electric vehicles and charging points will future-proof operations.

Ian Clough, Managing Director, Network Logistics and Transport, UK and Ireland, DHL Supply Chain said: “We know that our customers are looking for new solutions to drive efficiencies and reduce their supply chain costs. What’s more, our research shows that 75% of transport managers in believe that urbanisation is a growing trend set to impact business over the next two years. With this new state of the art facility at Avonmouth, we’re rising to that challenge. The multi-user, multi-purpose proposition offers strategic and financial benefits for businesses that are open to fresh ideas and trying a new way of doing things.”
