FBiH Government sets draft law on Yugoslavia Postal Services

The BiH Federation Government set at a session held in Sarajevo a draft law on postal services and forwarded it to the FBiH Parliament, the Government’s Information Service said in a press release.

Considering that the postal services have been regulated by and carried out in accordance with provisions of the law on postal services, which has been taken over from the ex-Yugoslavia, it is necessary to regulate this sector by a new FBiH act.

The main aim of the law is for the FBiH Government to provide, in accordance with European standards, for basic issues concerning organization, terms and manners of carrying out both local and international postal services as well as for the interest of postal services, and to set rules and principles of the postal policy.

Hence, it has been determined that functioning of postal services was of general interest for the FBiH, and that services are to be carried out by two postal operators based in Sarajevo and Mostar respectively, and whose names must not include neither state not ethnic mark.

The license to operate postal services will, according to the draft law, be allocated by a postal regulatory agency, but until the agency is set up, those duties will be performed by the FBiH Transport and Communications Ministry.
