Danish SwipBox and Finnish Remomedi now offer digital dispensing of medicine

It will soon be possible to receive your medicine through automated parcel lockers in Finland, thereby marking the starting point for a new way of thinking about dispensing medicine, and the next step is Denmark and Norway. This is the result of a newly formed collaboration between Danish SwipBox and Finnish Remomedi, who together are making it possible to order medicine online and then collect it in one of SwipBox’s automated parcel lockers.

The first SwipBox for automatic dispensing of medicine is already being tested in Finland. This means that Finns will soon be able to collect their medicine in one of SwipBox’s automated parcel lockers. Once the customer has ordered the medicine via the Remomedi app, the medicine is delivered to an automated parcel locker by the pharmacy’s staff. The customer then receives a unique QR code, which is scanned at the automated parcel locker’s monitor, and the medicine is securely collected. A Click & Collect scheme for automated dispensing of medicine is thereby introduced in Finland.

Innovative solution
During their research phase, Remomedi has especially emphasised a combination whereby a supplier could offer a secure solution, that also did not involve price increases for customers. “We wanted to create better options for consumers in relation to ordering and collecting medicine. For us, SwipBox was the natural partner, as their unique software and secure automated parcel lockers supported this solution, while also providing a guarantee for secure dispensing of medicine. We also recognised that SwipBox has a constant focus on innovation and development, which is why they are able to support the digital opportunities of the future,” says Kari Paukkeri, CEO of Remomedi. Remomedi’s staff are also trained to handle SwipBox’s automated parcel lockers, so they can place the customer’s medicine in the parcel locker without difficulties.

Denmark and Norway next in line
Initially, Remomedi and SwipBox are launching the solution in Finland, but Denmark and Norway are the next countries where consumers will have the option of collecting medicine in SwipBox’s automated parcel lockers. “We are very pleased that Remomedi has chosen to partner with us on the project, as we believe that automated delivery of parcels, including medicine and pharmacy products is the way forward, when we look at the development in the area,” says Thomas Fugl, Co-CEO of SwipBox. “Since we are a Danish company, we are also pleased that the concept is intended to be expanded to Denmark, so that Danes will be able to enjoy the same flexibility.”
