Pallets for west coast main line.
FreightBus, a new rail-based trunking service, will offer hauliers a competitive and flexible overnight service for small palletised consignments.
Hauliers are to be offered a rail-based trunking service between London and Glasgow from next January.
The service, known as FreightBus, will accept single pallets for a nightly departure, Monday to Friday.
Advenza Freight, Britain’s newest rail operator, says it has aimed FreightBus at hauliers who have too many pallets for a full road vehicle or who prefer to stick to local or regional haulage, but want to fulfil customer requests for a long- distance delivery.
‘Latest drop-off time will be 20.00, with first collection being 17.00 the next day. If anyone wants to use the service but cannot complete its own haulage at either end, we will put them in touch with professional haulage firms,’ says Tony Hagon, managing director of Advenza.
Charges for the service have not yet been determined but will be ‘competitive’ with an all-road equivalent. Regular customers will be offered a carnet of 100 tickets at a discount, with tickets useable on any train.
‘Most of our enquiries so far have come from the White Van Man who wants to carry out the collection and delivery himself, but gets a request for trunking,’ he says. But a mailing of hauliers had brought a stronger-than-expected response, he says.
Advenza is backed by private equity and two shareholders- of which one is Hagon. Two more unnamed shareholders will be coming on stream by January’s operational date
