Plans for Alternative Post Company in Austria

Plans for the development of an alternative post company in Austria appear to be progressing well. In May, the CEP News reported on the launch of the Document Exchange Network (DEN) (CEP News 22/04), which is supported by numerous political lobbyists. In an interview with the CEP News on Tuesday, managing director Walter Trezek said that the new service offer had now come to the attention of the federal procuring agency (the authority in charge of contracting postal services out to tender at national level). Mr Trezek confirmed that a discussion with representatives of the authority had already been held at top level. He said he was confident that his company would be able to compete against the post in future bids. ‘The days of the postal services monopoly are gone as a result of new technology’, said Mr Trezek. Negotiations with potential investors appear to have been successful. According to information gleaned by the CEP News, the signing of a letter of intent is imminent.
