TNT aims to increase China branches to 100 from 25 by 2010

TNT, one of the world’s top logistics and express mail service providers, said it aims to increase its branches in China to 100 from the current 25 by 2010, and service 1,000 Chinese cities, up from the current 500.

TNT, a unit of Netherlands-based TPG NV, which opened its mainland headquarters in Shanghai today, said in a statement that it also plans to boost warehouse capacity and staffing levels by up to 10 times by 2010.

‘China is identified as one of TNT’s key growth areas. We foresee that the market will be a key driver for TNT’s future global growth,’ chief executive Peter Bakker said.

TNT’s annual revenues in China stand at approximately 250 mln eur, the statement added.

Other foreign freight forwarders currently operating in the country include United Parcel Service Inc (NYSE UPS), FedEx Corp (NYSE FDX), and Deutsche Post AG unit DHL.
