Postcomm consults on a long term licence for AMP

Postcomm today (15 September 2004) began a 30-day consultation on the proposed issue of a long term licence to Alternative Mail & Parcels Limited (AMP), to provide bulk mail, consolidated mail and tracked business-to-business mail services.

AMP is a sister company of Datarun, which holds an interim licence, restricted to a pilot scheme of a minimum of 12 months’ duration. This will be revoked if a long term licence is granted to AMP. A long term licence has a minimum life of seven years.

The consultation document and text of the proposed licence can be found on Postcomm’s website www.postcomm.gov.uk. Printed copies are available from Postcomm at 6 Hercules Road London SE1 7DB.

Notes

Today’s document says that Postcomm is minded, subject to consultation, to grant a licence to AMP. It suggests that the proposed services will have no appreciable adverse effect on the provision of a universal postal service throughout the UK and will further the interests of users by promoting competition between postal operators.
