Swiss Post International market activities stepped up in Italy and Sweden

Swiss Post International (SPI), the international arm of Swiss Post, is further
expanding its business activities. In Italy SPI has completed a takeover of Porta a
Porta S.p.A, including its wholly owned subsidiary, the Italian logistics company
Servizi Distribuzione e Logistica S.r.l. (SDL). In addition, SPI will become the
logistics partner of HSE (Home Shopping Europe), the Italian teleshopping
provider. Boosting its activities in the Italian market enables SPI to reinforce its
presence in the business-to-consumer segment and to offer customers a
comprehensive range of services in the areas of storage, logistics and delivery, as
well as in cross-border mail and goods traffic. At the same time, SPI has acquired
ownership of Mail & Logistics in Sweden, its former franchise partner, and is now
represented in Scandinavia by its own subsidiary.
In early 2002 Swiss Post International took a 30% stake in the Italian parcel and logistics
company Porta a Porta, based in Tribiano. Now the international arm of Swiss Post has
acquired the remaining 70% of the share capital. Porta a Porta specializes in the
nationwide distribution of goods to individuals. The company also provides business clients
with flexible solutions that satisfy various logistics requirements – from pick-up to
warehousing, order picking and installation, right through to collection of invoiced
amounts upon delivery.
Centre of excellence for international mail and goods traffic in Italy
Through its buyout of Porta a Porta, SPI has also acquired that company's 100%
shareholding in the Italian logistics company Servizi Distribuzione e Logistica S.r.l. (SDL),
which specializes in integrated and customized logistics solutions. SDL provides a variety of
services across the logistics spectrum from storage to delivery, including order processing
and packaging. SDL S.r.L, founded in 1997, currently employs a staff of 15 and is

Italy and the logistics services of Porta a Porta will be continued under the new name Swiss
Post Porta a Porta. National and international business customers will thus be able to take
advantage of a one-stop shop for tailor-made solutions for international mail, distribution
in the Italian business-to-consumer market plus B2C logistics.
SPI is also the new logistics partner for the Italian spin-offs of the teleshopping provider HSE
(Home Shopping Europe). HSE sells products and services to individuals via its own 24/7 TV
channel “Canale d”. Goods ordered from HSE will in future be distributed to households in
Italy by SPI.
SPI Sweden: first subsidiary in Scandinavia
In Sweden SPI is taking over its former franchise partner Mail & Logistics. SPI Sweden will
concentrate on providing top-quality cross-border mail delivery services for business
customers (everyday mail and bulk mailings). The company has its head office in Stockholm
and employees eight members of staff.
SPI – comprehensive services for globally active customers
Today, more than 700 employees work for the international arm of Swiss Post, which was
founded in 1996. With its international strategy, Swiss Post aims to strengthen its position
in the Swiss market through links with worldwide networks and to build up a solid
distribution network on international markets. The acquisitions in Italy and Sweden
contribute to the successful implementation of this strategy. SPI has its own subsidiaries in
Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden
and the USA. Swiss Post International also works together with franchise partners in Spain,
Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. In March 2004, SPI additionally entered into allinclusive
distribution partnerships with the postal organizations in Slovenia, Hungary and
Slovakia. In 2003, SPI generated sales of 900 million Swiss francs and an operating result of
31 million Swiss francs. This year it expects to achieve substantial sales and earnings
growth.
