DHL to expand express logistics facility in Jebel Ali

DHL to expand express logistics facility in Jebel Ali –>DHL UAE will open a 6,000 square metre express logistics centre in Jebel Ali Free Zone, officials said.

“This major new investment has been necessitated by constant growth in our business out of Jebel Ali, which has recorded 20 per cent year-on-year growth since it opened five years ago,” said David Wild, general manager of DHL UAE. The new facility is due to open in April and is the first in a three-phase, five-year DHL Jebel Ali development programme, company officials said.

Phase 2 will start next year, with a proposed 20,000 square metre warehouse in the free zone, officials said.

Being built at a cost of $3. 5 million (Dh12. 85 million), the centre will be four times the size of DHL’s current Jebel Ali Free Zone facility, company officials said.

The new express logistics centre will include a dedicated logistics racking division, and will act as a major trucking hub, bolstering DHL’s Gulf-wide distribution network, company officials said.

“Our ongoing investment in the free zone over the coming five years is in recognition of our desire to take first-mover advantage in the emergence of Jebel Ali as a world-class hub,” Wild said.
