UPS marks anniversary of Philippine hub by announcing significant expansion

UPS Philippines today celebrated the third anniversary of its intra-Asia air hub by announcing expansion plans in a ceremony attended by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Since its establishment in 2002, UPS’s intra-Asia hub has grown into the company’s largest air hub in the Asia Pacific region. The hub is now home to 90 flights per week, a 50 percent increase since its opening. To meet growing demand, UPS announced plans to triple the hub’s sorting capacity from 2,500 packages to 7,500 packages per hour. The expanded capacity translates to greater reliability and faster transit times for customers.

“The strong growth of our Philippine operations is a clear indication of its importance to businesses worldwide and in the region, “said David Abney, president of UPS International. “The expansion of UPS’s intra-Asia hub reinforces the significant role it plays in the region by helping businesses navigate global commerce and providing them with access to key trade centers within Asia and around the world.”

In the fourth quarter of 2004, UPS’s export volume from the Philippines grew by nearly 30% as compared to the same quarter in 2003.

The strategic location of the UPS intra-Asia hub provides a central sorting point within four hours by air from all major Asian cities, bringing customers better access to some of the world’s fastest growing trade routes. This expansion will benefit businesses throughout the region, and especially in China, Hong Kong and Japan which will all receive better service as a result of this expansion.

UPS is the world’s largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain services, offering an extensive range of options for synchronizing the movement of goods, information and funds. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., UPS serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. UPS’s stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange (UPS) and the company can be found on the Web at UPS.com.
