Most Austrians oppose Post AG privatization
A total 77 pct Austrians oppose the privatization of Austrian postal company Oesterreichische Post AG, according to a survey, commissioned by the Austrian opposition Social Democrat party (SPOe), Upper Austrian deputy governor Erich Haider said on January 22, 2006.
A total 69 pct supporters of the ruling Peoples’ Party (OeVP) and 75 pct of the the right-wing Freedom Party (FPOe) were against the Post AG privatization.
According to 71 pct respondents the deal would profit only the investors and not the public and 69 pct expect postal services to get worse in their location after the privatization. A further 75 pct respondents expect further closure of post offices after the company’s sale.
