UPS to open 3 retailing outlets in China in Q2

US United Parcel Service (UPS), one of the world top 500, plans to open three retailing outlets in China in Shanghai in the second quarter of this year.

An executive for UPS told journalists that small and medium businesses accounted for about 30% of total Chinese clients of UPS and made great contributions to UPS’ profits. The three retailing outlets will provide services of collection and delivery of express mails as well as copy and bookbinding. UPS considers locating the outlets in CBD (central business district), hotels and neighboring universities.

Another global express giant FedEx is also studying localization of retailing outlets and is set to march into the Chinese retailing market.

Industry analysts pointed out that international logistics giants enlarged investments in construction of wholly-owned retailing networks in China after the country fully opened the market to the outside world.

Obviously, the three retailing outlets of UPS are just the beginning of their expansion.
