Palletways launches new distribution operation in Spain
Palletways Group has officially launched its new Spanish distribution network, dedicated to express delivery of small palletised freight consignments.
The new company, Palletways Iberia, is a joint venture between Palletways Group and Transportes Campillo. It will offer a 24-hour delivery service for small palletised consignments anywhere within the country, as well as an economy 48-hour service.
Local Palletways management will run the company and the network in Spain, headed by newly appointed managing director Luis Zubialde, who was previously managing director of logistics provider, Fiege.
The Spanish network is modelled on Palletways’ existing operations in the UK and mainland Europe. It will initially comprise 25 established independent logistics providers, who will operate under the Palletways brand and combine each other’s resources to distribute 1-6 pallet consignments quickly and cost effectively across Spain via a central hub operation in Guadalajara.
The network is driven by a next generation IT infrastructure designed specifically for palletised freight movements. High-speed connections at all depots in the Spanish network enables data relating to every consignment to be sent in real-time via the Internet to two major servers at a data processing centre. Customers have online access to the status of any of their consignments in the network. Full POD details and scanned images of the signed delivery paperwork are viewable the morning after delivery.
“We believe that we have identified a major gap in the logistics marketplace in Spain and therefore we are predicting significant demand for our range of services,” said Zubialde. “Our aim by the end of the first year is to be handling some thousand pallets of freight daily.
