Palletways achieves major milestone in the company’s sustainability journey
Certification confirms compliance with ISO 14064-1:2018 standards, across all European networks and supports Palletways’ Find Better Ways sustainability initiative while strengthening transparency and confidence for customers, members and partners
Palletways has achieved independent verification of its greenhouse gas reporting for the first time, marking a major milestone in the company’s sustainability journey and reinforcing its long-term commitment to operating a more sustainable freight network.
The certification confirms that Palletways’ group wide greenhouse gas reporting complies with ISO 14064-1:2018, the internationally-recognised standard for quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas emissions.
The verification was carried out by independent testing, inspection and certification organisation TÜV SÜD. It included a detailed review of Palletways’ greenhouse gas reporting systems and covered emissions from direct operations, purchased electricity and transport activities across the reporting period (GHG emissions in Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3).
Transport-related emissions accounted for the majority of the footprint, reflecting the nature of Palletways’ operations and underlining the importance of continued investment in efficient, lower-carbon transport solutions across the network.
The certification forms part of Palletways’ wider sustainability strategy and supports its comprehensive Find Better Ways initiative, which brings together the company’s environmental, social and business priorities under a single framework.
Find Better Ways is designed to help Palletways reduce its environmental impact, support its employees and local communities and create a more resilient, future-ready network for customers, members and partners.
Across the Europe wide network, Palletways has already highlighted initiatives including more efficient route planning through its hub-and-spoke model, increasing use of electric vehicles and electric handling equipment, LED lighting upgrades, renewable energy projects, carbon-avoidance schemes and tree planting.
The new ISO 14064-1:2018 verification provides Palletways with its first independently validated baseline from which it can measure future progress and identify further opportunities to reduce its emissions.
Palletways CEO Luis Zubialde said: “Achieving independent verification of our greenhouse gas reporting for the first time is a significant milestone for Palletways and an important step forward in our sustainability journey.
“As a business built around transport and logistics, we recognise that we have a responsibility to understand our environmental impact and to take meaningful action to reduce it. This certification gives us a clear, independently validated baseline and demonstrates our commitment to transparency, accountability and continual improvement.
“Reducing emissions is an important aspect of building a more sustainable business but we are also working hard to create a stronger, more resilient network that delivers long-term value for our customers, members, employees and communities.”
Christian Zink, Service Quality Manager at Palletways Group, said: “Across our European networks we are investing in more efficient operations, lower-emission vehicles and equipment, renewable energy and practical initiatives that can make a measurable difference.
“Having our greenhouse gas reporting independently verified means we can track that progress more effectively and make better-informed decisions about where our focus should be.”
The certification applies to Palletways operations across UK, Iberia, Italy, Germany and the Benelux.
