Finland Post acquires Universal Spedisjon in Norway

Finland Post Corporation is to acquire the Norwegian logistics company Universal Spedisjon AS from the two families owning it. Universal Spedition AS posts net sales of approximately EUR 44 million, and operates via its outlets with terminals based in Oslo, Kristiansand, Stavanger, Trondheim and Bergen.

Universal Spedisjon provides cargo, forwarding and contract logistics services in Norway and throughout Europe in collaboration with partners. The company employs a staff of 75, whose jobs will not be affected by the acquisition in any way.

The acquisition completes Finland Post Logistics’ logistics service network in its home markets in the Nordic countries, Baltic Rim and Russia, and reinforces Finland Post Corporation’s position as one of the leading logistics operators in Northern Europe. Last summer, the worldwide network of the Danish Combifragt Group A/S was integrated with Finland Post’s transport network via business acquisitions, and the Swedish Roadlink AB followed in February 2006.

“Our international customers expect us to provide effective and comprehensive overall logistics solutions. By integrating our international transport services with our service warehouse network and advanced IT solutions, we are able to provide customers with a premium quality service range with competitive edge. We are extremely satisfied to include Norway as part of our comprehensive service network”, says Vesa Vertanen, SVP at Finland Post Logistics.

This deal is subject to approval by the competition authorities in Norway.

At present, Finland Post owns Itella AS in Norway, a subsidiary specialising in information logistics.
