Zimpost set to open three more branches
Postal service provider Zimpost will open three more branches this year as the company intensifies its expansion programme.
An official with Zimpost said the branches would be in Matabeleland North, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central.
“The network expansion is in line with our expansion programme to bring more services to rural areas where most people live,” said the official.
Zimpost has been expanding its branch network in recent years, with emphasis on the rural areas.
The new branches, which are expected to be fully operational by the end of the year, will add to the current 360 dotted across the country.
Last December, Zimpost constructed 10 post offices across the country, bringing to 20 the number of post offices that the postal utility has rolled out in the last two years.
The funds used to construct the post offices were granted by the Government under the 2004/2005 Productive Sector Investment Programme.
Zimpost is a product of the unbundling of the Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (PTC) which also saw the parastatal being split into three companies.
NetOne and TelOne are the other two offshoots.
As part of the ongoing transformation process, Zimpost is shifting its focus to technology developments
and refurbishment of the postal infrastructure in line with international trends.
Zimpost has also entered into strategic partnerships with several organisations notably Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings, Zimbabwe Newspapers and insurance giant NicozDiamond, among others, in bid to boost its revenue streams.
The postal agency has also introduced ancillary services such as Fleximail which supplies stationery to rural schools and courier services for the speedy delivery of mail and other items.
