Parcel delivery specialist Hermes to offer letter forwarding services (Paketdienst Hermes steigt ins Briefgeschaft ein)
Financial Times Deutschland, Oct 23, 2000, 95 words

Hermes, the parcel delivery subsidiary of German mail order giant Otto Versand GmbH & Co, will start offering letter forwarding services and thus target Deutsche Post AG, Germany’s postal services operator.

Managing director Wolfgang Furwentsches said in a newspaper interview that the first Hermes postmen would start delivering letters before the next stage of the liberation of Germany’s postal services sector in late 2002. Initially, Hermes will specialise in delivering mass mailings for commercial customers. At a later stage, it will start delivering standard letters to private customers. In 1999, Hermes, which employs 6,700 members of staff, delivered a total of 140m parcels and recorded a turnover of DM 590m.
