Nationwide Government Mail service launched

The Government Car and Despatch Agency (GCDA) has launched Government Mail in partnership with Amtrak Express Parcels. The nationwide service gives Government direct access to a nationwide network of 100 delivery centres and 1200 vehicles providing next day delivery of documents and parcels.

Government Mail is part of the Department for Transport (DfT) and is a result of a rebranding of GCDA’s InterDespatch Service; an established distribution service that has traditionally carried mail between government departments. With the launch of Government Mail, the Agency is able to provide a true one-stop-shop solution to meet all of the varied collection and delivery requirements of Government and the wider public sector.

Run in partnership with Amtrak, Government Mail will be providing next day delivery to destinations nationwide, offering best value services across government. The service matches the best capabilities of established public and private enterprises, allowing Government to single-source all mail and parcel requirements, reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Government Mail provides secure collection and/or delivery of documents and parcels through a range of timed next day delivery options. Along with the standard services, such as by 9am, 10am, Noon or Worldwide, specialist sameday services and the handling of delicate, fragile and hazardous goods are available nationwide. Government Mail also provides mail room facilities, mail screening and special van and driver services.

“The partnership with Amtrak has enabled Government Mail to provide just about any collection and delivery requirement with next day delivery nationwide. Government Mail gives Government and the wider public sector an opportunity to cut their administration and reduce costs through an innovative Government-backed partnership”. Says Roy Burke, Chief Executive of the Government Car and Despatch Agency (GCDA).

“By working with the Amtrak, the GCDA can significantly broaden the appeal of their already well established mail service. Between us we have created a range of market leading services under the Government Mail banner. Now, for the first time, Government will be able to source all their collection and delivery requirements from one place”. Says Jonathan Smith, CEO of Amtrak Express Parcels.
